Lorenzo’s Seven Days of Adventure
Meet wish kid Lorenzo! He’s a sweet, energetic seven-year-old boy who loves animals, Disney, and playing Xbox. Lorenzo has a respiratory disorder that requires lots of special care and doctor’s appointments, but he displays so much bravery through it all.
Lorenzo was referred to Make-A-Wish by his social worker Kendra. She knew that a wish would give him something to look forward to in the midst of his medical treatments and hospital stays. Lorenzo and his family connected with Make-A-Wish, and he began dreaming about all of the possibilities. Lorenzo was excited to experience something new, but because he requires 24-hour nursing care, long-distance travel was not the best fit. He still wanted to incorporate an element of travel into his wish, so after talking with his wish granters at Make-A-Wish, he wished to go on seven days of adventure around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex! Lorenzo’s wish granters talked to him about all of his favorite things to do, and they got to work creating a unique, fun-filled itinerary.
Soon enough, it was time for Lorenzo’s wish to come true, and the adventure began. First, Lorenzo and his family rode the train at Grapevine Vintage Railroad, where they sat in a car with floor-to-ceiling windows so they could take in the views. They went on a special tour of the train and Lorenzo even got see the engine room. The next day, they visited the Dallas Zoo. Lorenzo loves animals and had the biggest smile on his face when he saw lions, monkeys and bears. Lorenzo also loved getting to see all of the beautiful aquatic creatures in the Dallas World Aquarium.
Up next, Lorenzo and his family went to the Perot Museum. They raced dinosaurs, journeyed through the universe and challenged each other in robot competitions. Then, they visited SEALIFE Aquarium and LEGOLAND in Grapevine. Lorenzo got to play with LEGOs and take pictures with some amazing LEGO statues, and he held several sea creatures at the aquarium.
Lorenzo also went to Great Wolf Lodge, where he swam and played games with his family. On the last day of his adventure, Lorenzo visited the Crayola Experience. He went on a 4D coloring adventure, starred in his own coloring page and learned how crayons are made.
Lorenzo truly enjoyed every moment of his wish, and the memories of the experience will continue to bring him hope, joy and strength into the future for years to come.
